As believers, we eagerly await the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His return will mark the culmination of God’s redemptive plan for humanity and the establishment of His eternal kingdom. While we do not know the exact time of His coming, we are called to live in a way that prepares the world for His complete and permanent return.
Living in Anticipation
Living in anticipation of Christ’s return means living with a sense of urgency and purpose. We are called to be watchful and ready, like wise servants awaiting the arrival of their master. This involves keeping our hearts and minds focused on Him, seeking His guidance and direction in all aspects of our lives.
It also means living a life of holiness and righteousness. The apostle Peter reminds us that we are to be holy in all our conduct, knowing that we will be held accountable for our actions when Christ returns. This requires us to continually examine our hearts and repent of any sin, striving to live a life that is pleasing to God.
Sharing the Good News
One of the most important ways we can prepare the world for the return of Jesus Christ is by sharing the good news of the gospel. Jesus Himself commanded His disciples to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. We are called to do the same, proclaiming the message of salvation and inviting others to enter into a relationship with Christ.
This involves both sharing the gospel with those who have never heard it and also strengthening and encouraging fellow believers in their faith. We can do this through personal evangelism, participating in mission trips, supporting ministries that spread the gospel, and being a living testimony of God’s love and grace.
Praying for God’s Kingdom to Come
In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught His disciples to pray, ‘Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’ As we prepare the world for the return of Jesus Christ, we must be people of prayer, interceding for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth.
Prayer is a powerful weapon in the spiritual battle for souls. It aligns our hearts with God’s purposes and invites His intervention in the affairs of this world. Through prayer, we can ask God to open hearts, convict sinners, and bring about revival and spiritual awakening.
Preparing the world for the complete and permanent return of Jesus Christ is both a privilege and a responsibility. As believers, we are called to live in anticipation of His coming, sharing the good news of the gospel, and praying for God’s kingdom to come. May we be faithful in fulfilling this calling, knowing that our Lord and Savior will one day return to establish His eternal kingdom.
